Behind the Scenes with Ewa Koprowska: Continuous Improvement Manager

Ewa brings a unique perspective to her role as Continuous Improvement Manager, blending a deep respect for structure with a passion for fostering collaboration and innovation. In this interview, she shares her journey to SmartRecruiters, what excites her about the company’s culture, and her advice for those considering joining our dynamic team. Q: Could you briefly introduce yourself and explain your current role and responsibilities?


Ewa: Personally, I am a mathematician by education and an agilist by choice. I deeply respect the clarity that binary thinking can bring. Yet I am also intrigued by the “quantum” way of thinking, where understanding requires looking at the system as a whole. Sometimes you even need to unlearn what you know and start afresh. Outside of work, I'm a mother of two and our household wouldn’t be complete without our Siamese cat twins. So one can say that I’m surrounded by binaries!

Professionally in SmartRecruiters I’m a Continuous Improvement Manager in a team dedicated to making our organization more successful by driving behavioral changes. We are supporting groups and squads across the organization and we are tackling R&D wide initiatives. Together our team: Joakim, Staszek, Agata, and myself is committed to creating an environment where improvement isn’t just an outcome. It is an ongoing part of our culture and the cornerstone of our future. 


Q: How would you describe the experience of participating in the recruitment process for SmartRecruiters?


Ewa: It was a well-structured and engaging experience. I do love the interaction with my recruiter, Joanna Pokorska. She was reaching out after every step to ensure that I was still interested, to confirm that the company was still interested, and double check if I was aware of the next steps and overall dynamic. It was a pleasure to meet and chat with professionals from different levels and areas during my three interviews. There was space to present my experience and also probe if this organization is a good fit for me. As you can see - it is and I am happy to be here. 


Q: What attracted you to our company?


Ewa: I think that two aspects are the most important for me - people and the organization's strong culture rooted in respect, openness, and continuous feedback. That aligns with my own values and work philosophy. Additionally, I was intrigued by the Smart Recruiter’s commitment to innovation from the perspective of product, process, and organizational structure. 


Q: What do you enjoy most about working here?


Ewa: What I enjoy most here is the people - their openness, willingness to collaborate, and commitment to deliver meaningful results. Also working in a remote-first global environment with a diverse team resonates with me. That kind of wider team offers a great opportunity to learn from various perspectives. I believe that in such an environment my experience and talent could truly make a difference. 


Q: How has the company culture influenced your work experience?


Ewa: One of SmartRecruiter’s values is Impact which is pushing me to constantly consider how my work contributes to our border goals. My manager Joakim Wangmar is keeping me on my toes and I cannot spread too thin. When I am trying to do something without understanding the value of it it is challenged. This is helping me to focus on meaningful outcomes meaning I can bring real value to our customers.


The second value AsOne fosters a sense of unity and collaboration across groups and squads. It’s easy for part of an organization to get siloed and AsOne value encourages open communication and cross-functional alignment. 


As a CEO of Your Work, I mean - my work - I am empowered to take ownership and accountability for my responsibilities. I like this kind of autonomy and I believe I have the freedom to shape the way I work. Within reasonable boundaries of course. 

The last value - Smarter - is my favorite. This is our commitment to continuous improvement, challenging the status quo, and looking for ways to optimize and innovate. I am staying curious and I am seeking out new technologies to bring a fresh perspective to problem-solving. Yes, we are experimenting for real. I cannot say more 🙂


Q: What advice would you give to someone considering applying here?


Ewa: My advice to anyone applying here is to be yourself - authenticity is genuinely valued. If you are looking for professional development this is absolutely the place to be. This environment is both challenging and rewarding, pushing you to grow alongside talented, driven professionals.

That said, if you’re just looking for a comfortable position with little expectation to raise the bar, this may not be the right fit. It’s a demanding place that recognizes commitment and expertise and an environment that expects people to contribute and bring their best. If that excites you then join us 🙂
