Your role & team

Question: Please, tell us about your current role in SmartRecruiters, your set of tasks and team you work with.

Sara: I'm a Senior Product Designer here at SmartRecruiters, working closely with the communication/scheduling and mobile teams. My main tasks involve understanding our customers' needs, addressing their pain points, and ensuring we deliver an outstanding user experience. I collaborate daily with my product team, including our product manager and engineers. I'm also an active member of the design team, driving various initiatives to drive innovation and alignment between the product and design teams. It's a dynamic role that keeps me engaged and constantly learning.

Question: What do you like the most about your job and your role?

Sara:

No day is the same. Every day brings a new challenge and an opportunity to learn something new. This variety keeps the job exciting and allows me to continually grow my skills.

Collaboration and creativity. I enjoy collaborating with different teams, yet I also value the time I get to geek out on Figma, finding solutions for complex problems that are technically feasible. It’s a perfect balance of teamwork and individual creativity.

Customer impact. Talking with customers and seeing the real-life impact our work has on their everyday lives and jobs is incredibly rewarding. It’s fulfilling to know that what we create makes a tangible difference.

Question: Please, share your thoughts on what you like in SmartRecruiters.

Sara:

Ownership and autonomy. We have ownership of our own domains and work in triads to drive our own roadmaps. This autonomy empowers us to make significant contributions and decisions.

Flexible work environment. The ability to work remotely, unlimited PTO, and company-wide shutdowns in summer and at Christmas make for a balanced work-life experience.

Continuous learning. SmartRecruiters invests in our development with a dedicated budget for learning. This commitment to growth is something I truly value.

Innovation and project impact

Question: Can you share a project you’ve worked on that you feel had a significant impact on our products or services?

Sara: One project I'm particularly proud of is the recent Slack and MS Teams integration. By bringing SmartRecruiters to the platforms where hiring teams already operate, we’ve streamlined the interview process significantly. It’s gratifying to see firsthand how this integration has made life easier for our users and improved their workflow.

Question: How do SmartRecruiters support innovative thinking within your team?

Sara: At SmartRecruiters, teams are empowered to create their own roadmaps. If you can demonstrate a need through customer discovery and data, you’re supported to pursue innovative projects. Additionally, we’re encouraged to suggest new ways of working and share these as experiments with others in the organization. This open-minded approach makes for a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.

Question: What advice would you give to someone considering a move to your team?

Sara: Take advantage of all the opportunities presented to you. There’s so much to learn and a lot of impact you can make, so be proactive and leverage these opportunities to their fullest potential.

Question: From your experience, what qualities does someone need to succeed in a role like yours at SmartRecruiters?

Sara: Resilience, confidence, and curiosity are key. You need to be flexible enough to adapt to changes, confident enough to stand by your ideas, and curious enough to continually challenge the status quo. These qualities will help you thrive in our dynamic environment.
