Women in Tech: The Power of Curiosity

Welcome to our new series: "Women in Tech", where we get to share stories from the amazing women shaping the future of SmartRecruiters. We'll be talking about their career journeys, key insights, and advice to celebrate their achievements and inspire the next generation of talent.

To kick things off, we're featuring Ewelina Atmaca, Customer Support Representative, whose path to a tech career is a powerful reminder that curiosity and a willingness to learn are your greatest assets.

Journey & Inspiration

What drew you to a role at a technology company like SmartRecruiters?

Ewelina: What really caught my attention about SmartRecruiters is how it uses tech to make such a real impact. Finding the right job changes lives, and I loved the idea of being part of that. Plus, it felt like the kind of place where I could keep learning, take on new challenges, and grow alongside really smart people.

How have the skills you gained in your previous professional experience helped you excel in your customer support role at SmartRecruiters?

Ewelina: Coming into SmartRecruiters, I didn’t have years of experience in this type of role, but the company trusted me and saw the potential I could bring. That meant a lot. They gave me the right tools and surrounded me with people who really wanted to see me succeed. From my previous experiences, I brought strong communication skills, curiosity, and a willingness to learn, and those have been the foundation for everything I do here. With the support of the team, I’ve been able to grow quickly, take on challenges with confidence, and really develop into the role.

Looking back, what's one piece of advice you'd give someone who is considering a career change into the tech industry?

Ewelina: Looking back, my biggest advice would be: don’t let a lack of experience hold you back. I came into tech without a big background in it, but what mattered most was curiosity, the willingness to learn, and having the right mindset. Companies like SmartRecruiters really value potential and give you the tools and support to grow. So if you’re considering the change, trust yourself, be open to learning, and don’t be afraid to take that leap - you’ll be surprised at how much you can achieve.

Daily Life & Role

What specific skills or qualities do you believe are most crucial for success in your particular technical area?

Ewelina: In my role, I’ve found that curiosity and problem-solving are just as important as technical know-how. You don’t have to start out as an expert - you just need to be willing to ask questions, learn quickly, and adapt when things change. Communication is also crucial, because so much of success in tech depends on collaborating with others and making sure solutions really meet people’s needs. For me, combining those soft skills with the technical tools I’ve been learning has made all the difference.

How do you continue to learn and grow in such a rapidly evolving industry?

Ewelina: I think the key is just staying curious. I learn a lot by asking questions, trying out new tools, and picking up things from my teammates. Tech changes fast, so I try to see that as an opportunity - it keeps me on my toes and pushes me to grow a little every day.

The flexibility of remote work is often cited as a game-changer. How has this work model enabled you to thrive in your technical role while also balancing other priorities in your life?

Ewelina: Remote work really works for me because I can organize my day, focus on what needs to get done, and take ownership of my work. It keeps me productive, learning, and growing, while still balancing other priorities in life. Having that flexibility and trust makes a big difference every day.

How do you stay current with our product's technical advancements and the broader industry trends to best serve and advise our customers?

Ewelina: Part of my role is staying on top of our product and industry trends, which can be challenging at times. I make it a point to join product release webinars and have regular discussions with my teammates. Combining these with my own curiosity helps me stay informed and confident when guiding our customers to get the most value from our solutions.
