Karin's Journey with SmartRecruiters' Work from Anywhere Perk

Hi, my name is Karin and I've been with SmartRecruiters for the past two years now. I'm currently in the role of Program Manager for Customer Marketing. How did I end up here? 

Basically in my last company, I was working as Head of Recruitment and I implemented SmartRecruiters; platform and then thought it might be a little bit more interesting to move into consulting. 

This is what I did in my first role with SmartRecruiters as Hiring Success Consultant. I advised customers on change management strategies and on different processes they could implement to optimize the TA function. 

 My second role with SmartRecruiters was then Program Manager for GTM services.  This was a super diverse role. I did different projects and it was really exciting. 

For example, we launched a services marketplace for our customers, but also for the general public. 

And it just happened that I moved into the role of Program Manager for Customer Marketing. I'll hopefully be bringing a lot of value to our customers. 

“Work from Anywhere” Perk

Last year I decided I had enough of the gray and dark German winters. I struggled staying motivated during work when it's always cold outside and dark.I live in the city. That means I need to take my car if I actually want to be in the countryside, which can be stressful during rush hours.  And when I have to walk my dog, Mica, in the mornings and in the evenings. 

This is the reason I'm so happy that SmartRecruiters offers us the benefit to work from anywhere up to a specific amount of time. 

Destination: Mallorca 

So where to go for sunshine and good Wi-Fi? The decision was Mallorca, which is a little island, part of Spain. I love hiking and the beach and Mallorca offers exactly that in the northern part of the island. 

Because Spain is part of the EU, I just needed internal approval from my Manager and then the People Team. Literally three days after kicking off the process, it all got approved. I was set to pick up Mica and drive down to Barcelona and then take the ferry to Palma de Mallorca. 

Personal Experience Working from Anywhere

So, what was the outcome of my 'work from anywhere' experience? I didn't need to get in the car for weeks at a time. I lived 15 minutes away, walking distance from the beach in a little finca. The mountains with endless trails started right at my door. 

In terms of work, I felt like I was a lot more relaxed. I could think about topics more creatively. I took more mini breaks in the sun and felt like I had more energy during meetings and especially on those days where I had back-to-back meetings. I switched off more easily after work. 

Though I never really had the Monday blues before, I also didn't really work towards the weekends or the Fridays. As I mentioned, I could take a little mini breaks and just reset before meetings and before bigger topics. 

To end, I can also say that my Labrador, Mica, and I have hiked pretty much all the mountains there are in Mallorca.
